Askim-BOO!

We got a couple shows coming up in the next couple weeks, so if you're not doing anything, you should come down. I know we're going head to head with a couple good parties, so if you don't make it then we'll understand. We'll cry a lot and we might never forgive you, but we'll understand. Sort of like how a criminal psychologist understands serial killers maybe? If you're hosting a party, try to keep it going past 2:00 and we'll see you when we're done playing. But yeah, Appaloosa this week and Chapultapec next. I believe there are drink specials and costume contests and such at Chapultapec as it will be All Hallows Eve.

Saturday, October 18, 2008

What'cha doin' tonight? Wanna hang out?

Fuckin' Fuck Yeah y'all. Askimbo tonight at the Old Chicago on 14th and Market. No cover, affordable drinks, show starts at night (probably closer to 10 than to 9, despite whatever lies the flier might be spreading).

2008 Season

Good season everyone, I had a great time and it's always sad to see it end. But if any of you get the jones for some hot northside on northside action, we can always have a tournament, or trivia (wednesdays at Patrick Carols), or a bowling league perhaps. There's lots of shit to do, and one extra day in the week with which to do it now. But anyhow, here's how the last game went down for those of you that left early (left early from the last game?).

John was the winner of the season, keeping the trophy for another year. Josh caught up with him at 11 points apiece and we had to settle the thing with a winner take all abbreviated match. Good thing John was able to get out of his class early or we might not have been able to settle this thing for another week. In the last game, Red came out the overall winner, beating Kevin, Tim, Josh and Phillips. Mike got a wicket kill, and then got wicket killed himself by Temuchin for his first and last point of the season. AJ and Phil were the chicken fighting champions, but how would they have fared if the 3x defending champions had been there? I guess we won't know for another year. That was how the last game went down, and this is where everyone ended up. We'll have a tournament and a rules party soon here.

John - 11 points+ playoff win (12 points?)
Josh - 11 points
Deme - 10 points
Tim - 9 points
Dave - 8 points
Eric - 8 points
Kevin - 8 points
Boyd - 7 points
A.J. - 7 points
Red - 7 points
Doug - 6 points
Carly - 6 points
Poops - 6 points
Mike 4 points
Phillips - 4 points
Dak - 3 points
Viv - 3 points
Shane - 3 points
Ricky - 3 points
Jess - 2 points
Nate - 2 points
Steph - 2 points
Tashina - 2 points
Savannah-2 points
Melanie - 2 points
Gen - 1 point
Poops - 1 point
Sonia - 1 point
Julie - 1 point
Margaret - 1 point
Marco - 1 point
Mary - 1 point
Kevin F - 1 point
Amber - 1 point
Naomi - 1 point
Temuchin - 1 point
Everyone else NPP

Fwd: Group picture

I was asked to forward this along to everybody. See you tomorrow

Proposal...
Team photo before bocce.
Two reasons.  Many people who are definitely part of the team (myself included) leave early now that the season is during school.
Second reason:  Last year, the group photo was at night and we don't have good enough flashes.  I would really like a great, light photos.
Can you send out an email to let everyone know?  And, can you get John and Sonia there, even if just for a photo?
Thanks!

Game 20 - Season Finale!

So it's that time again, the final game of the 2008 season, which will, as always, be at Wolff Park. Will John get to keep the trophy for a second year? At least a half dozen people are within striking distance, and he won't be there to defend his position. The big winner was AJ for the second week in a row. Eric also got two with his wicket kill and a win, and the other game winners were Mike, Naomi (her first point), and Tim. So yeah, bring your chicken fighting pants and plan on staying late. See you Tuesday if I don't see you at Mike and Margaret's housewarming party on Saturday. Speaking of Mike, this weeks poster comes from him, and even though he did all the work and sent it to me last week, it still took me until Friday to post it. Game on!

Game 19

Sorry about another late email here. Only two games to go in the 2008 season. The big winner last week was AJ, who has called Jefferson Park for the second to last game. Also winning games were Tim, Jake, Nick and Red, who also got a wicket kill. John still leads the pack, but he's not going to be able to play the last few games. See y'all tomorrow.

Game 18, top 5, tournament and more

So I'm gonna roll everything into one gigantic email here. We'll start off with the top 5, which I'll be doing for Jess this week since she had to miss the game yesterday. Let's call it...

Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town

Despite an email exchange in which remembering to bring a pen was mentioned a dozen times, I forgot to bring a pen. So everything here is what we jotted down into Deme's iPhone, which I'm going to nominate as hero of the week. Those things are frickin' cool.

Top 5

- Eric's wrap around in which his ball stayed put but his mallet went through the wicket and got stuck.
- The poison battle starting at 8:30
- Dave jumping booty ass naked into the swimming pool with no water
- Cancer wicket
- The street light working

Tip 'O the week: picking up wickets doesn't mean just throwing them at the bag.

Douche bag of the week: Mike for offering a dollar to anyone who could hit Trece with their ball.
Also, I don't think he ever payed up for his 1$ offers to "dong" the pole.

So I know this is a pretty feeble Top 5, and I apologize. Next time maybe I'll remember a pen.

Onward and upward-

Game winners and such
I was the big winner of the night, outshooting or outlasting John, Josh, Carly and Tim. Carly and John both also got wicket kills. I'm calling Mosquito park for Tuesday, but before that, Josh and Phil are gonna host a tournament this Sunday at their new place. The address is 7733 w 95th dr. Hopefully that map is right, because google maps is acting real squirrely about it. If you get lost, call somebody. We'll tap the keg around noon, and start up the game around 1:00. Probably $5 as usual.

Standings

So I was also asked to send out the standings since we're heading into the home stretch here, with only three games left.

John - 11 points
Deme - 10 points
Josh - 10 points
Dave - 8 points
Kevin - 7 points
Boyd - 7 points
Eric - 6 points
Doug - 6 points
Carly - 6 points
Tim - 6 points
Poops - 5 points
Dak - 3 points
Viv - 3 points
Shane - 3 points
AJ - 3 points
Ricky - 3 points
Red - 3 points
Jess - 2 points
Nate - 2 points
Steph - 2 points
Jake - 2 points
Tashina - 2 points
Savannah-2 points
Melanie - 2 points
Mike - 2 points
Gen - 1 point
Poops - 1 point
Sonia - 1 point
Julie - 1 point
Margaret - 1 point
Marco - 1 point
Mary - 1 point
Kevin F - 1 point
Amber - 1 point

That's all that I can remember for now, so see y'all on Sunday or Tuesday or whenever.

Game 17

So I think this is my record for lateness, I'll blame it on a severe case of Olympic fever with a side of Obamania. Actually, I started taking classes again and it's kicking my ass. But that's neither here nor there, what is here is game 17, which after much drama, is exactly where it's supposed to be at Ruby Hill.
Last weeks game was won by Melanie, who has returned with a vengeance. Also winning games were Red (in top 5 style), Mike G (better late than never), Amber (First point in her rookie season), and Doug (also got himself a wicket kill and a place in the top 10). So here's the top 5, and here's a link to this weeks album, and here's my mantra for the week
See y'all tonight at the top-o-the town.

Game 16

Good job shutting down the top of the board last night everyone. Savannah got her first point by winning her game, then quickly followed it up with her second point when she won the poison battle. Also getting a first point for the season was 2005 champion Mike G, who silenced the critics who had been calling him croquet's Favre, a washed up ex-champion who was too far past his prime to win anymore. Also winning their games were Nick, Tim and Carly, who are all holding down the middle of the pack. Next week we play Wash Park, but not at the croquet green. Just kidding, unless the dude from the Denver Croquet Club sits and babysits the court again. Here's the top 5. Here's where the court's at. Here's a croquet/poster bridge. See you at the game.

THE GAME IS NOT AT WASH PARK. IT IS AT CITY PARK! Sorry I had to yell. Here's a revised poster.

Re: Game 15

Uh, that's "City Park" Dave.  I know everyone wants to play there real bad, but c'mon.

So it was a BCH kinda night on Tuesday. Plus Deme. John was the big winner, and his almost all of his current and former housemates were game winners, Josh (who also got a wicket kill), Eric, and Boyd. Where you at Sonia? Like I said before, Deme also got in the mix with a game win, holding off the BCH assault on his lead, and Ricky picked up another point with a wicket kill. Next week is Wash Park (but closer to the playground than the tennis courts), and hopefully the early start of classes don't fuck people up too bad. Here's something from another croquet discussion that's been going on. Here's the top 5 for "da week". Here's something we should try. See y'all Tuesday.

GAME 14

So hopefully I'm remembering this all right and please correct me if I've made any mistakes. I should remember it all though, as I had a long, long time to follow the action in all the other games. But if I had to pick a park at which to get brutalized ridiculously early, the one across the street from the Columbine Steakhouse would probably be the best. That there's some good eatin'.

OK, on to the best of the best, to the best of my knowledge. Josh won his 2nd week in a row and leaps up into a 2nd place tie with John, who won his game last night, and Kevin who got a PWK. Tashina also PWK'd some poor bastard who probably had it coming. Also winning games were Ricky and Jake (both for the 2nd week in a row) and Eric, who was kind enough to demonstrate the many uses of the Electro-Weasel Flesh Ripper pictured below (Zappa for president, dead or alive). Josh called Rocky Mountain Lake Park, but there didn't seem to be any consencus as to where in the park it'll be. Someone mentioned new landscaping with hills and such, so maybe there, wherever that may be. Here's where the top 5'll be when it gets there. Here's some Zappa. See y'all next Tuesday, unless you wanna come to our show on Thursday, in which case I'll see you then, but let me know first so I can give you tix. Fuckin' Fuck Yeah! Game On!

7 weeks to go.

Game 13

I think this is the earliest I've ever had the poster and the results ready. Neat. Anyhow, Josh was the big winner for the night, and in addition to all the cool schwag, also gets to go see the sneak preview of Step Brothers and gets a poster autographed by John C. Reilly. Also winning their games were Kevin and Carly, who are both moving up the board fast, and Ricky and Jake, who really should be moving more. Kevin Frisbie got a wicket kill in his first, and probably only, game of the season. Perhaps Doug gave it to him as a thank you for the cool shirts. Next week is at Barnum, and I'll see y'all there.

Tuesday, July 15, 2008

Game 11

Once again, this is ridiculously late for a winners recap, but just in time for the next game. The big winner last week was AJ, who called Zuni Park and won sneak preview tickets to Step Brothers. Other game winners for the day were Josh, Nate, Carly and Boyd. There were also wicket kills by Steph and Doug. Here's where to read the top 5. This weeks winner gets tickets to Pineapple Express. See y'all tomorrow.

Game 10 and Tournament

So I'm a bit late in getting this out, but it's been a long week of drinking and setting shit on fire. The important first thing is that there's a tournament on Sunday at Carly and Kevin's place. 1:00ish, and I don't remember the address. The next game is at Sunken Gardens, per Doug's call as he was the big winner on Tuesday. Also winning games were Kevin, Shane and Boyd, with wicket kills by Tashina and Deme. Hope y'all had a happy 4th and I'll see you tomorrow.

Thursday, June 26, 2008

Game 9

So the big winner on Tuesday was John (5pts-2nd pl). Game winners were Deme (6pts-1st), Boyd (4pts-3rd), Viv (3pts), and Dak (3pts). Jess (2pts) and Red (2pts) both got wicket kills. Jess'll have up the top 5 when I can figure out how to fax her the PBR box that the notes are taken on. John called City of Cuernevaca Park. See you there.

Friday, June 13, 2008

Game 7

The action could not have been more evenly spread across the board this week. Poops was the overall winner and him and Tim (game winner) both move into the ever-growing 1st place clusterfuck with 4 points each. Margaret, Mary and Marco all got their first points of the season and move out of the NPP ranks, which are getting pretty damn small pretty damn early this year. Lastly, Viv gets her 2nd point and moves into the 3rd place bracket. Poops has called Globeville Landing. Here's the top 5 for the week. Here's a poster that I didn't resize properly,

Thursday, June 5, 2008

Game 6

More action all across the board on Tuesday. The game winners were Sonia, Kevin, John, Steph and Poops, with Kevin coming out on top in the poison battle. Deme and Carly both got wicket kills. Kevin calls Sloan's Lake, and this is important people, so pay attention, NOT THE NORMAL PART OF SLOAN'S. We're gonna play at the Torpedo on the SW side of the park. That's the entrance closest to 17th and Sheridan. Here are the standings, and here's the top 5. And if you're not rafting or going to whatever festival it is people are going to, then here's directions to the Simpkins' 1st annual anniversary pig roast. Try to carpool and bring food or alcohol that isn't good pork or shitty beer.

Wednesday, May 28, 2008

Game 5

So here's how Berkeley went down. Tim was the big winner, and Game winners were Boyd, Julie, Dave, and Deme. Nate may or may not have gotten a point due to a gap in the rules. Here's the Top 5. Here are the standings. Here's a map to Apel-Bacher Park, where next week's game will be. Here's a copy of Lady by Styx. Sorry To Maura and Jess that I couldn't get a Styx album cover, but their covers really suck. See you next week, if not before.

Monday, May 26, 2008

Game 4

So I apologize for the lateness of all this. It's been a long week which I've spent a good deal of laid up with a combination of laryngitis and tonsillitis. So the big winner last week was Eric O, who with his 2 new points now moves into a tie for 1st place with yours truly at 3 apiece. Everyone else to get points moved up outta NPP status. Deme led the charge with a game win and a wicket kill to move into the 2nd place bracket, Genevieve got a wicket kill, and Poops and Viv both won their games. Eric has called Berkeley Lake.

Jess' Top 5 blog now has a permanent home here, so check that out.

Other NSCC related shit, Birthday for Sonia and Eric at the BCH this Saturday, and there's gonna be trivias and beers and clarinet recitals. Also, Laura and I are having a pig roast on Saturday, June 7th for our 1st year anniversary, and NSCC folk are all invited. 5:00 p.m., there'll be croquet and volleyball and cannon fodder and roast pig. Bring food or alcohol. Hit me up for more info at the game if you're not gonna be rafting or touring or doing one of the other myriad things going on that day.

So here's a half-assed poster for the game. Sorry I fucked your idea up Bergonz.

Thursday, May 15, 2008

Game 3

You gotta love a park that's hidden halfway up a highway on-ramp. Good turnout and beerticipation from everyone on a cold evening. Dave was the big winner, and games were also won by the Brothers Boyd, Shane, and Tim. Josh got a wicket kill. Next game is at Lowell Ponds. I'm a jack-ass and lost a lot of the shit that was up on the website from last season, so if you get a chance or if you care at all, let me know what your theme song was, ball color, number etc.
Also, Jess' top 5 blog is up in a place where everyone can check it out, but it's being difficult and moving around a lot, so check it out here, here and here. Hopefully we'll have that worked out soon. See y'all next week.

Game 2

Big winner last night was John. He called Gates-Crescent Park so that all the people stuck in finals week might be able to make it. Also winning their games were Dave S, Shane, Kevin and Doug. Jess and Eric got Wicket kills. Check out Jess' blog for the game highlights. Game on!

Schedule stuff

Alright. Here's a separate section to discuss schedule as opposed to posters. Bergonz brought up the rules party too, suggesting having that mid-preseason, then starting in May. So far the votes I've got back are 2-2 for preseason vs. no preseason. Discuss

Classic album covers

It was suggested several times, and I like the idea, of doing classic album covers as this years game poster theme. If you have suggestions for classic records that could somehow be photoshopped into croquetityness, please post them here. Here's an example. Game On!

NSCC '08 Season

So that last forum site sucked. We'll try this one for a while. Post away people.
